t|g|p is looking for actors of every age, shape, size and stripe to be a part of our 2019-2020 season. We're interested in seasoned veterans and talented newcomers! Everyone is welcome and encouraged to try out!

We are currently casting for the Nu Artist Showcase & Before It Hits Home

The Nu Artist Showcase will be a series of original vignettes – mostly dramatic. Before it Hits Home is a family drama. If you want to be considered specifically for a role in either production please note that on your audition form at the location and choose your monologue accordingly.

what do i need to bring?

FOR ADULT ACTORS:

  • if you are a singer have an 8-bar sample of a song prepared- preferably something from a broadway musical. Ideally, be prepared with a second song to showcase range.

  • if you have an acting résumé & headshot*, please bring two copies of each.
    (*not required)

  • prepare one monlogue no longer than one-two minutes. You may be asked to spot-read from a script.


FOR CHILD ACTORS:

  • if you have an acting résumé & headshot*, please bring two copies of each.
    (*not required)

  • be prepared to supply dates of any conflicting events (school commitments, family travel etc.)

  • You will be asked to spot-read from a script.

Nu• Artists Showcase ‘19 Theme: 'FREE'

This Fall - the|griot|project  is seeking eight (8) short, original plays to be considered for as part of our annual Nu Artist Showcase.

In honor of our departed sister, writer, Ms. Toni Morrison, this year's theme is  “FREE”. 

Freeing yourself was one thing, claiming ownership of that freed self was another.

The competition is open to all playwrights who wish to submit a play. Eight plays will be selected and performed from among all the submissions. Plays selected will also qualify for cash prizes*.   


*More details to follow.




Guidelines

  • All submitted pieces must be ORIGINAL WORKS, and may not have been submitted to any other contests, festivals, showcases ets. No works that are currently under license or agreement to any other third-party or franchise will be considered.

  • If their work is selected authors will be required to sign a waiver verifying that their work is original and wholly owned by them.

  • All submitted works must be inspired by the works of, or quotes by, Ms. Toni Morrison and centered around the theme “FREE”

  • submissions should include a brief cover letter (not more than 500 words) explaining how their submission is inspired by a Toni Morrison work/quote

  • All plays must be 8-10 minutes in length.

  • Plays should feature no more than 4 speaking characters.


Deadline for Submissions

all entries must be received by no later than SUNDAY OCTOBER 6th, 2019. In fairness to all, submissions received after the 6th of October will not be considered unless the overall deadline is extended.

Thompson ‘Hits Home’

The |Griot| Project is pleased to announce the addition of Louis Robert Thompson to our creative team for the 2019-2020 season!

Louis Robert Thompson is a stage and screen actor who has worked alongside actors such as Jon Voigt, James Caan, and Jesse Eisenberg. Louis found the opportunity to hone his skill as a screen actor and director collaborating with a cast of his peers on his passion project, his first independent, medium-length, film – Manic.

Thompson's breakout role came along when he had the chance to play the amorous, adulterous Carl in Dirty Sexy Derby Play for the Louisville Repertory Company. He followed up with another Louisville Repertory Company role in the play The Food Chain, in which he played the self absorbed model Serge. He extended his career to classical theater with a starring role as Jason in the Savage Rose Classical Theater production of the Greek play Medea.

Thompson joins The |Griot|Project this season to direct Cheryl L. West’s Before It Hits Home a family drama about of sexual identity, acceptance, love, music and impact of the AIDS crisis on the Black community.

Before It Hits Home will open Friday, November 22, 2019 and will be produced by William Mack III
